Marlene Torres Derama practices in the areas of civil defense litigation and insurance defense at Wolfenzon Rolle. She represents insurers and corporate clients in a wide range of personal injury, premises liability, and construction defect matters, managing cases from inception through resolution.

Prior to joining Wolfenzon Rolle, Marlene served as Claims Counsel at Travelers, where she handled a substantial caseload of civil litigation matters from inception through resolution. She focused on early case assessment, strategic positioning, and practical risk evaluation to drive efficient and cost-effective outcomes. Her work involved managing all phases of litigation, including written discovery, motion practice, depositions, court appearances, and mediation. Through thoughtful preparation and negotiation, she successfully resolved numerous matters without the need for protracted litigation.

Earlier in her career, Marlene represented hospital systems and corporate clients in complex liability matters, including medical malpractice, sexual assault allegations, premises liability, and negligence claims. She conducted internal investigations, evaluated exposure, and advised clients on risk mitigation and compliance considerations. She also gained significant experience in insurance coverage and civil litigation, providing analysis and guidance to insurer clients regarding liability exposure and policy interpretation.

Marlene earned her Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law, where she was named to the Dean’s Honor List and received the San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association Scholarship. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Latin American Studies from the University of California, San Diego. She is licensed to practice in California and is fluent in spoken and written Spanish.
